USING QC TWO MENU ITEMS QC installs two menu items. The main QC dialog can be called up by selecting Quality Control& from the Utilities Menu or, if you own ProScale, QC will appear in the GLUON Menu. The QC Palette can be brought up via the View Menu. All of QC's features can be accessed via the palette. To put the palette away simply close it or choose Hide GLUON QC in the View Menu. If QC does not show up in any menus then rerun Activator and relaunch Quark and/or make sure you placed the QC XTension in the right folder. WHAT IS QC FOR? QC stands for Quality Control. And that's exactly what it's used for--to help you check your documents for common potential problems as they arise so you have a better chance of producing a high quality product. There are many more things that impact the overall quality of a document than QC or any software can possibly check for, therefore QC is not a total solution but rather another tool in the chest. The concept behind QC is that you shouldn't have to wait until the last minute to check your documents as they're heading out the door. You should be able to easily check your pages at any time so potential problems can be nipped in the bud. This way, when it is time to preflight a document, there should be fewer suprizes and thus less all around aggrivation. Not everything QC finds is a problem. In fact often it finds things that are just the way you want them. Since QC can't read minds it flags them just in case you need to check them. Other times it's just a tool for checking consistency or to look for certain items. You may find entirely new uses for QC which we can't predict so let us know. IMPORTANT: QC is not designed to do your thinking for you. Make sure that qualified persons go over your documents thoroughly before releasing them for print. QC is only a tool and is not a substitute for the human mind (yet). |
